Mary Morton is a classically trained musician who, despite the valiant efforts of professors at three different conservatories, has been unable to shake a life-long guilty pleasure: writing witty cabaret tunes. As a little girl, Mary fell in love with the Tin Pan Alley songs of the 1920's and 30's that her father performed for her. So for over three decades, she's been honing her skills in crafting musical vignettes that combine clever lyrics with soaring melodies and jazz-inspired harmonies--the type of songs that transport the listener to chic nightclubs where the glamorous arrive dressed to the nines prepared to sip Manhattans and Pink Ladies, engage in sophisticated repartee, and dance cheek to cheek until the wee hours. For years, like some latter-day albeit less agoraphobic Emily Dickinson, Mary had tucked away her musical confections in a trunk. But now, after an embarrassing number of hours of psychotherapy, Mary has thrown back the lid of the trunk and is sharing her tunes with all who care to listen to or sing them. |
